ROYAL ALFALFA When selecting an alfalfa for your farm yield, stand life, and quality are your main criteria; so they are Great Heart’s as well. Royal was developed first and foremost with these traits in mind, and then we added the extra traits needed for a truly outstanding alfalfa variety. PERFORMANCE Great Heart Royal’s high yields are impressive. It obtains high tonnage through both quick early spring growth and re-growth after each cutting. Its persistence and tolerance for traffic compaction ensure this top performance year after year. SURVIVABILITY Royal has a very good winter hardiness and is a fall dormancy 4, which is the optimum maturity for our area. Its Disease Severity Index (DSI) is also excellent (33/35). Royal is resistant to all major alfalfa diseases with high resistance ratings to Bacterial Wilt, Verticillium Wilt, Fusarium Wilt, Anthracnose, Phytophthora Root Rot, and Race 1 Aphanomyces. It carries resistance to Pea Aphids, and moderate resistance to Race 2 Aphanomyces, Spotted Alfalfa Aphid, Blue Alfalfa Aphid, and Stem Nematode. Royal’s wide area of adaptation includes the many soil types and environments of the Midwestern and Eastern Us. QUALITY Royal is a highly digestible variety with improved forage quality. Its high leaf to stem ratio make it an excellent choice for superior quality. Royal’s high yield and quality production make it a valuable alfalfa for hay marketers and feeders alike. |
